Our Story
Sunfield Center was opened in August 2011 by a group of passionate psychologists from the former University of Michigan Autism and Communication Disorders Center (UMACC). From its inception, Sunfield dedicated itself to providing high quality ADOS-2 and ADI-R training to mental health professionals across the United States and Canada. As Sunfield Center grew to expand its training opportunities, Sunfield Institute was born.
Sunfield Institute is a professional development organization dedicated to providing gold standard training on mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders for professionals across all fields. Our team specializes in providing training for professionals, agencies, and community partners to promote positive change in the behavioral health of individuals and families. With backgrounds working in inpatient and outpatient settings, education, and academic institutions, our trainers bring a wealth of experience and expertise on a diverse range of topics including gold-standard assessments like the ADOS-2 and evidence-based treatments like Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
A place for professionals to grow, Sunfield Institute also offers learning opportunities for those in fields outside of behavioral health to learn how to become better allies in the space of mental health and developmental disorders. We work with communities, organizations, and other institutions looking to train their employees to provide training that is tailored to their specific needs. Sunfield Institute is well-recognized for its high quality, interactive, and innovative training. We have worked with organizations both big and small, including some of the most well-respected institutions in the world.

Our Mission
Our roots are as an outpatient mental health center dedicated to transforming the lives of children, adolescents, and adults struggling with developmental, behavioral and emotional difficulties. We provide exceptional care through Sunfield Center and Sprouted Sage, and high-quality training opportunities to professionals in our community and around the world. We want to help you implement evidence based practices and improve the outcomes of your patients.
Our Organizations
Sunfield Institute and its two sister organizations, Sprouted Sage Center and Sunfield Center, provide three related services:
- Sunfield Institute provides gold standard mental health related training to professionals around the world – for Mental Health Professionals
and Graduate Students. - Sunfield Center offers comprehensive assessments and evidence based outpatient treatment services – for Individuals and Families.
- Sprouted Sage Center provides intensive intervention for children ages six years and younger. Children receive applied behavior analysis, occupational and speech therapy in a preschool like environment – for Individuals and Families.
